NEFA Executive Report

Art Direction & Visual Design

Challenge

Create a printed and digital document that reveals the findings of an extensive survey about the art and design market. Brand the document to reflect the discoveries and interests and create an art direction that reflects the overarching message of the report findings.

Solution

The concept of a woven graphic was inspired by the ever evolving and interconnected nature of fine art mediums and design careers in new england. The motif will carry the reader from page to page overlapping color, abstractions of art imagery, and portraits of artists. Extensive data visualizations will be included throughout each chapter to illustrate the trends found in the studies, all while designing within the boundaries of the NEFA brand.

cover art

The angled, woven motif on the cover was directly taken from the woven textiles of the artists included in the report.

layout

An icon system was created to help designate each chapter to easily identify the sections and allow the reader to skip chapters that do not apply to their interest. With an abundance of data, each chapter also includes a number of data visualization that use color coding, symbols, and various chart styles to tell the story of the values and how they relate to one another.

digital

The printed copy was accompanied by an optimized digital version that included active links and meta data.
